The beginning or the starting point was in Al Ain City of deep history and originality. The idea dated back to the early 1960s. It was merely an idea that did not bear any aspirations and did not go beyond little hopes to exercise sports. The sport was not but football at that time.

Al Ain City was the city of springs, forts and oases that probably dated back to the pre-Christ era and was the meeting place of trade caravans. Its inhabitants were known since the olden times for their spirit of co-operation, originality and affection, these being the characteristics of the people living at that time.

Loving the place contributed to a drive to improve it year after year. This continued until President His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God protect him, took over in Al Ain City as the Representative of Abu Dhabi Ruler in the Eastern Region in 1946.

During the 20 years that followed up to 1966 when Sheikh Zayed became the ruler of Abu Dhabi, the first brick for Al Ain modern city was laid down and the future of Abu Dhabi was considered

Al Ain City was also the place of birth of the idea of the federation, which then turned into something of beautiful and magnificent effect and the source of pride of the citizens of this young country.

By the beginning of the modern process of development, Al Ain beautiful and quiet city changed from a mere city of springs into a lush green oasis and a source of pleasure to the onlookers.

President His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan has paid special attention to Al Ain City for many years, causing it to develop magnificently and change from a mere oasis inhabited by a number of nomadic tribes into the bride of modern cities and the park of the Gulf that had a special and distinctive architectural and civil stamp.

Al Ain City has 25 parks, which are used as recreation places for the city inhabitants and visitors, together with modern tourist facilities and ruins that depicted the past and the present, not to mention the castles and forts that were built by the forefathers with a view to protecting the city.

The city has also the UAE University, which is the centre of civilised and intellectual radiance, and a large number of schools, mosques and hospitals in addition to Al Ain Airport, the games park and the zoo.

Thus, the desert has been changed into a beautiful green oasis in which 30 million palm trees have been planted. Plants and trees spread all over and outside Al Ain City, rendering that charming city a green bed that pleases onlookers and visitors and a source of pride of the citizens of this immortal city.

Other edifices boasted by Al Ain City include Al Ain Sports Club, which is the only club representing the city.

“Our forefathers took part in building this country and it is our duty to build the coming generations and carry on what our forefathers tried to achieve. We should benefit from all experiences without being ashamed and should take from such experiences what is in conformity with our Arab traditions and ideals.”

This was one of the maxims of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God protect him. From this maxim we learn and know what we should do to protect our real wealth and ensure that fruitful building is everywhere.

Al Ain inhabitants were peculiarly marked by many distinguishing characteristics. They were the good people known for their kind hearts and integration where the one family spirit prevailed.

The lapse of time and all the elements of development, progress and modern civil and constructional boom helped Al Ain inhabitants be but fonder of greenery, calmness, water and beauty. Al Ain inhabitants are marked by a spirit of co-operation that governed their relations and hence you can realize what lies behind the beauty of Al Ain City.
