Under the directives of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, who is also the honorary president of Al Ain Club, the board of director of Al Ain Club under the chairmanship of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan decided to combine Al Qattara Club (new Al Jimi club) to the management of Al Ain Club as soon as the facilities were completed enabling Al Qattara Club to benefit from Al Ain Club’s expertise. The new Al Qattara Stadium was named after Sheikh Tahnoun Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Eastern Region. The facilities and buildings of Al Ain main club and its branches were subject to a comprehensive maintenance and refurbishment operation by the Public Works Department at a high cost. The operation covered the administrative buildings, playgrounds, Al Qattara branch and many buildings and indoor halls. This came as part of the attention paid by the people concerned to refurbish the facilities of the club to conform with the position of Al Ain Club and maintain this sports edifice. The sports season 2002/2003 witnessed a huge construction revolution at Al Ain Club with a boost of Dhs84 million from HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who is also the honorary president of Al Ain Club. As a result of this revolution, many sports and administrative facilities at Al Ain main club and some outdoor centres were refurbished and set up as part of the biggest operation in the history of the club. This was the first phase of a project for this purpose and there is still a second phase, which includes many significant projects. Work in setting up Khalifa Stadium was completed in January 2002 rendering it a world stadium that conformed to the latest specifications to be the source of pride of all sportsmen. The stadium had previously been subject to a comprehensive refurbishment operation where the main compartment was re-built based on a unique architectural style, followed by the refurbishment of many offices, halls, cloth rooms, clinic and natural therapy unit, which were housed by four floors together with the cafeteria and a mosque near the floor building. New seats were installed for all stadiums and the playground flooring was changed in preparation for the matches of a group of the FIFA World Youth Championship - UAE 2003. As part of this civilized boom and in a bid to keep pace with the progress achieved and the methodology adopted by Al Ain Club, there emerged the idea of HH Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-president of Al Ain Club and Vice-president of the Honour Authority, that it was necessary to set up a sports preparatory and secondary school, which would include the students of the club’s players so as to be under the supervision of the club from the sports, scientific, physical and health viewpoints. The idea turned into a tangible reality where “Al Ain Club Sports Secondary School” for the preparatory and secondary stages came to light and pushed its way with the sports and academic season 2002/2003. The school receive a large turnout from the students and proved to be a dazzling success from the very beginning.
