After Al Ain Club had won the general league tournament “Abu Dhabi League” in 1974 and specifically on February 2, HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, ordered the facilities and internal buildings of Al Ain Club to be completed and a fence for the club to be set up. This marked Al Ain Club’s win of the league and was the first reward received by Al Ain Club in recognition of the first accomplishment.

On November 13, 1974 HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, accepted the honorary presidency of Al Ain Club. This enabled the club to be honoured by HH Sheikh Khalifa’s honorary presidency, which represented an enormous and limitless support of the process of development of the club from the moment the club came into existence. HH Sheikh Khalifa’s endless support of and generosity towards Al Ain’s process of development, however, were evident in all fields.

The story that Al Ain Club and Al Tadhamun Club combined under the name of Al Ain Club is based on wrong information. This is because since its inception, Al Ain Club was a unified whole but then a group of the club members broke away from the club in 1970 and founded Al Tadhamun Club to be an independent one. The founders of the club included Hadher Khalaf Al Muhairi, Saleem Al Khudhrawi, Mohammed Khalaf Al Muhairi and Mahmoud Fadhlullah. This did not last for long and in 1973 an idea was proposed for the two clubs to combine in one club. In 1974, the two clubs combined together under the name of Al Ain Sports Club.

A decision was issued in the same year by the Ministry of Youth and Sports under No. 24 of 1974 to combine the two clubs of Al Ain and Al Tadhamun under the name of Al Ain Sports Club and to publicize the club officially so that this historical moment would trigger the official launch of Al Ain Sports Club. The first board of directors of Al Ain Sports Club was then formed under the chairmanship of Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri.

Following the end of the sports season 1974/75 and Al Ain’s win of the Abu Dhabi League for the second time, HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, who was also the honorary president of the club, ordered a new project to be carried out to develop the club and its facilities.

The second development project comprised completion of the expansions of the club’s administrative building, planting the playground with natural palm trees, setting up a stadium that accommodated 5,000 spectators, establishing a handball playground, a swimming-pool, a gymnasium hall and a theatre. Those constructions represented a great boom in the history of the club’s facilities.

On June 18, 1978,the board of directors of Al Ain Club decided in its meeting under the chairmanship of HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to name the new stadium of the club after HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, in appreciation and recognition of his continuous and limitless support of the club. This had a great effect on the comprehensive progress of the club from the sports and constructional viewpoints.
